What to expect as a TOTP Paediatrics OT

Our paediatric team have a variety of clinical experiences and varying capacities for private work. Some of the team are fully independent whereas others split their time between private work and their statutory roles.

We see a wide range of children in a variety of settings from very complex cases with long term housing and equipment needs, through to children needing support with their handwriting or concentration at school, and everybody in between!

We will always speak to you before allocating work and the team are here to support you with your cases as needed.

You manage your own diary and work load, booking appointments at times to suit you and your clients. We agree your geographical coverage at the start of joining us, on average our team would be travelling an hour from home for appointments.

To help you understand the kind of cases we receive and allocate to our paediatric team, here are some examples:

  1. Harry is 7 years old and has Down's syndrome, he wants to become more independent with dressing and personal care.

  2. Lucy is 14 years old with a brain injury. She has been referred by her case manager to adapt her new family home.

  3. Edward is 4 years old and in reception at school, they have referred him for help with his concentration in the classroom.

  4. Zoe was born with cerebral palsy, she has complex day seating and night time positioning needs.

I love working for the OT Practice because they are friendly, supportive and always at the end of the phone for advice and guidace. The work is flexible and fits well around my family commitments. I have recently resigned from my statutory role and I have no idea why it took me so long to make the leap! I can work hollisticly, across a variety of clinical settings and I am learning new skills too. Don't hesitate to make the first step into private practice. Louise
I was surprised at the level of support offered, I expected to have to get on with work on my own. I really like the flexibility and really enjoy working with The OT Practice. I have developed professionally, I have been pushed but in a professional and supportive way.
Louise
Sarah
I value the support offered the most, it's great to be able to speak to a dedicated person for each case. I never feel like any question is a daft question. I can run things past someone who has knowledge of the case and has involvement with it themselves. I've really enjoyed the variety of work offered to me, I've had some unusual cases. All of the Client Managers are easy to get on with and I've always felt backed up by them if I've felt unsure or had questions. They trust that I know what I'm doing.
Sarah
Rob
The variety of work has been a real surprise and something I've really enjoyed.
