Ian

Ian Shelton is an experienced Occupational Therapist specialising in Hand Therapy. Based in Derby, he provides specialist Hand Therapy across the East Midlands, with particular expertise in complex upper limb conditions, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, fractures and post-operative rehabilitation. Ian has extensive experience supporting people following tendon repairs, fractures, peripheral nerve injuries, ligament injuries, crush injuries, amputations and replantation, as well as conditions including complex regional pain syndrome, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, Dupuytren’s disease, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinopathies. He also provides return-to-work and occupational rehabilitation programmes.

Ian works as an Extended Scope Practitioner at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre, where he autonomously assesses and treats a wide range of complex hand and upper limb conditions. His clinical expertise includes advanced splint fabrication, orthotic provision, injection therapy, wound and scar management, oedema management, desensitisation and evidence-based rehabilitation programmes. Alongside his clinical practice, Ian has contributed to NIHR-funded clinical trials and has experience teaching on international postgraduate programmes. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in Advanced Practice.

Ian is a member of the British Association of Hand Therapy and is committed to evidence-based practice, professional development and advancing specialist Hand Therapy.
