Services

Assessments & advice

Our therapists can provide assessments at home or work, and at a time convenient for you. The assessment is a collaborative process where we obtain a full picture of an individual's difficulties before planning the next steps with you.

We appreciate that you are likely to have questions, and the assessment is your protected time to ask these of an expert. We will also provide immediate and practical advice at this stage, relieving you of anxiety while the full report is prepared.

Treatment packages

Treatment packages are tailored to the needs of each client, and available immediately after assessment if necessary.

Sessions are traditionally delivered in blocks of eight to allow for goal setting, delivery and review. Treatment is delivered in your own home, for as long as you require it, and at a time convenient for you.

All our recommendations are carefully explained and costed in advance, allowing you to make an informed choice whether or not to proceed to treatment.

Carer training

Training can be provided to family or carers on specific treatment techniques recommended in the assessment. Whatever the topic or audience, our team will ensure that this is delivered in a practical and memorable way.

Equipment trials & quotes

An assessment will inform our recommendations for equipment to promote independence and maximise safety at home or work, arranging for a trial period where necessary to guarantee that you receive the assistance you need.

Home design & adaptations

Following accident or illness, or as a result of the natural ageing process, homes often need modifying to maintain independence and safety. Whether it be bathroom adaptations, movement between floors or specialist sensory rooms for children, our team can provide the advice, specifications and support to make the modifications you need.

Our approach to working with private individuals

Through many years of providing occupational therapy to our individual private clients, we have identified three core elements that form the foundation of our service to guarantee exceptional care.

Our client management team

From your initial enquiry to discharge you will have a dedicated office-base team, supervised by one of our Clinical Services Managers who will be an experienced OT, managing your case ensuring quality, consistency and timeliness. They will first aim to fully understand your needs, before recommending how to proceed and working with you to select the most appropriate OT in our team to provide care.

Our systems and processes

We manage hundreds of cases at any one time and have many OTs working in the community working with families, so ensuring that every case runs smoothly requires dependable logistics. We have refined our processes and invested in bespoke systems to provide the foundation to The OT Practice's operations.

Our nationwide team of therapists

We have the largest team of private OTs in the UK, and all have passed a strict selection and registration process to ensure we only have the best on our team. Clinical skills and experience are essential, but to become an OT Practice therapist our team members must demonstrate a track record of professionalism and the right attitude to customer service, as well as having an energetic and innovative approach.

Next steps

Initial enquiry

Your call will be answered by a member of the client management team who will be able to understand your circumstances and provide information and advice on our services. They will be able to explain the referral process in more detail, advice on costs and how to proceed. If you would like to get an idea of cost before calling we recommend using our online cost guide, which asks a few basic questions before emailing you a cost estimate.

Quote

Once our client management team has established your needs, you would then be sent a quotation detailing the actions we propose and the associated fee, where all costs are made clear and transparent. If further work might be required in the future then we would also provide as much detail about this as we can to inform your future decisions.

Referral

Once you have had time to consider the options and costs, and if you would like to proceed, the next step would be our straightforward online referral form. Of course, if you would like guidance on completing the form, or if you have any other questions at that time, our client management team will always be available to assist.

Assessment & advice

Our OTs will arrange to visit at a time convenient for you. Evening and weekend appointments are available, and family members are welcome to attend if desired. The assessment is a collaborative process, where we provide advice and guidance on any issues that we identify together.

Report & recommendations

Assessments are followed up by a full report containing our advice and recommendations. Our reports are professional, comprehensive and jargon-free, providing a clear clinical analysis of the needs identified and any professional judgements made. Your client management team will be responsible for sending this to you within 7 days of the assessment and working with you to put in place any recommended treatment programmes or equipment installations you wish to proceed with.

Treatment & interventions

If treatment is recommended then we often provide sessions in blocks, which allows time to establish goals and make progress towards them before reviewing and planning the next steps with you. If support is needed for ongoing work such as equipment trials or housing adaptations, monthly progress reports will be provided at no extra cost.

Commonly asked questions by private individuals

What sort of difficulties can your therapists help with?

Our clinical team spans the entire range of occupational therapy, from preparing housing reports and installing equipment such as stairlifts and bathroom adaptations, to hand therapy and rehabilitation sessions following accidents or illness.

Find out more about common problems and how our OTs can help.

Which areas of the UK do you serve?

We have a large, nationwide team of therapists, so wherever you are located in the UK we are likely to be able to provide you with the right help.

Find out more about the locations we cover and how our OTs can help.

How are appointments arranged?

Your assigned therapist will make contact with you to arrange an appointment at a convenient time, after which a confirmation email will be sent.

We recognise that weekend and evening appointments can be easier for those that work or would like family members to attend, so by all means request this with our client manager or therapist if desired.

If I cannot attend an appointment made for a family member, can I request feedback on the session?

As a nominated contact for your family member, you can call our client manager at any time for an update, or request a call-back after any appointments you are not able to attend. In any case, you will receive our report within 7 days of the assessment and, if we progress to treatment, monthly progress reports are available at no extra charge.

What steps do you take to ensure confidentiality?

As part of our information security policy all reports are securely stored and password-protected, and cases are only discussed with the referrer or a nominated contact person.

Do your OTs collaborate with other involved parties, such as the local council?

If necessary and approved by you, our OT will contact any other professionals involved with you, and arrange meetings or joint visits as required.

What happens if I have questions about some of the information contained in the report?

Our client management team will always be just a phone call away to answer any questions you have about our reports or any other aspect of our services.

Do your therapists help to arrange the ordering and installation of equipment they recommend?

Whenever our therapists recommend equipment they will include all information on its specification and cost in their report. If you then wish us to arrange its installation for you then we would be happy to do so.

Will I be charged more if my assessment takes longer than expected?

We charge a fixed fee rather than an hourly rate, so our therapists spend as long as necessary with clients or their families to gain a full understanding of the circumstances. Our assessments are therefore a consultative process as well as an information-gathering one, during which we can provide initial advice and answer any questions you may have.

Can you assist those who live abroad?

Many of our OTs have worked with clients overseas. If you or a family member are in this situation then we would be pleased to discuss this with you.

Can you visit me at home/work/care home?

Our OTs can visit you wherever is convenient for you.
