COMING SOON: Report Writer — transforming the way we write reports
by Giles Thompson
Over the past six months, our occupational therapists and partners in the charity and local authority sectors have been part of an exciting beta programme for our new Report Writer platform — a bespoke report-writing tool designed specifically for occupational therapists. Following overwhelmingly positive feedback, we’re preparing to roll it out more widely across our customer base, including our our case manager and education sector customers.
A New Era for Report Writing
Report Writer has been researched, designed, and developed entirely in-house, combining our expert clinical knowledge with our growing technical development capability. The result is a sophisticated, cross-device system that enhances the quality, consistency, and efficiency of our OTs report authoring process.
Unlike traditional approaches where reports are predominately written after the assessment, Report Writer builds the report-writing process into every stage of the workflow. Information captured at referral automatically transfers through the system, while OTs can capture key details during visits using a tablet or mobile device. The result: less duplication, fewer errors, and more time focused on what matters most — supporting people to achieve their goals.
Designed by OTs, for OTs
Every feature of Report Writer has been shaped by the realities of occupational therapy practice. Structured templates and guided prompts support clear, well-reasoned recommendations and a consistent standard of reporting across our network. OTs can customise reports to each case, access examples and suggestions at every step of the assessment, and benefit from built-in quality checks that streamline the QA process.
Feedback from the beta phase has been especially positive from our charity partners, where caseworkers report clearer, more consistent reports.
Efficiency, Quality, and Impact
Report Writer is already delivering tangible results for our team and customers. Key benefits include:
- Efficiency & Capacity: Automated data transfer and formatting reduce duplication and admin time.
- Quality & Consistency: Structured templates and embedded clinical reasoning tools promote clear, consistent reporting.
- Innovation: A future-ready platform, designed to integrate AI safely and appropriately into the clinical workflow.
- Adoption & Excitement: Therapists are actively requesting cases where they can use Report Writer — a strong signal of the system’s usability and value.
These efficiencies have also supported cost management during a period of high inflation and rising staff costs, helping us to maintain service quality without increasing prices.
What’s Next
Report Writer is currently configured primarily for housing and equipment reports and will soon expand to include assessment reports for all OT specialisms, as well as authoring specifications and other supporting documents. The next stage of development will explore the integration of AI-assisted authoring tools, helping OTs to produce high-quality reports even more efficiently — while always keeping clinical reasoning and professional judgment at the centre.
A Glimpse of the Future
With Report Writer, we’re reimagining the way occupational therapy reports are created — embedding quality assurance, efficiency, and clarity into every step. We’re proud of what has been achieved so far, and even more excited to share it more widely in the months ahead.
